America has a truly long history of throwing money at a problem to make it go away, to coverup atrocities that should never be forgotten. 4 While the trials were ultimately deemed unlawful and restitution was paid to the families nearly a decade later, it had to be little comfort for those that lost a loved one. ![]() These early Colonists are the same folks that persecuted their own people, accusing over 200 people of practicing witchcraft they murdered 20 people in Salem, mostly by hanging, but one man was crushed to death by stones. 2 Many of these Native Americans were also forced into slavery, a fact that is little-known today. These “good, God-fearing” people had no problem destroying the way of life for the Native Americans, stealing their land, and introducing disease and illness that they had no way of battling. This did not even include the whole of Christianity. The Puritans and Pilgrims (two separate sects of the same religion) 1 came here with the purpose of starting anew, yet they did not come here for religious freedom. This America, the one that is constantly being touted as a country built on freedom is a country built on hatred. It is our job to learn, to educate, to be better. I am an American, and I am proud to be one, but loving something or someone does not mean that we can, nor should, ignore their actions to hurt others. This stance has seemingly never changed, regardless of how it affects those around us. ![]() We are a deeply selfish and ungrateful people, hiding behind the guise of freedom, screaming that our rights have been violated if we are unable to do whatever we want.
